BEATING FROM THE SHIELD OF AUSTRALIA’S WORKING CLASS, THE FUN NOT FAME IV MIXTAPE STIRS THE BLOOD, SWEAT AND TOIL OF MANY MCS, BEATHEADS AND DJS. WITH SLEEVES ROLLED, SOME OF OUR HARDEST WORKING TALENT LAY THE BOOT IN FROM ALL CORNERS OF THIS ARID HIP-HOP SCENE.

Where the third in the Fun Not Fame franchise came as an unregulated assault of dope weaponry, the fourth mixtape finds a return of firepower at a higher calibre. Brought to you by Brisbane’s own MC Biotic with Velvet Couch Clothing and in keeping with the series, the fourth instalment involves MCs that which represent the strength of the nation’s independent culture pulling together for a massive output in celebration of hip-hop unity.

From the northern hemisphere, Lil Rhys and Jman (UK) drop in with the sickest shit to open the relentless push along with Big Smokin’ Joe (UK) later on and US compatriots Audio Temple featuring Krhazey (New York) and Miky (Los Angeles) making this 27-track album a global assault. On the domestic front, usual suspects Fundamental Elements, Grime Connoisseurs, Chase, Strike Won (How Many Deep), Master Wolf (Kryptamistik) punch the clock once again alongside Nerve (Syntax Junkies), Principal Sinner, Matt Snipes (Rinsed Out Records) and Subliminal & Dienamix (Patriotik Natives).

Standout tracks on the album include, but not limited to, ‘Writers Unblock’ which finds Newcastle MC Nhostic returning to the series to unload both barrels over Eminem’s ‘Rap God’ chopped, screwed and tailored to suit. Here, Nhostic puts his foot down, weaving lyrically in the fast lane to a steady pace of the God himself. ‘Lyrical Combat’ too which finds local northsiders Pleura (Fundamental Elements) and Biotic who bleeds from the biro with Elaborate (Exit Strategy) as they tear ink through the dark and eerily-produced Nuggy Gee joint.

Further on, ‘Tripl3Troubl3Stumble3’ punches out on a speedball. A classic anthemic crew belter by Triple 3, lyrically proclaiming ‘three generals busting on a beat’ and ‘swinging on a bar like monkeys on coke’. Also, Brisbane MCs: Punch who throws in over and over bars outside of his nine-to-five; DwizofOz who never fails to throw up the river city, spells out his allegiance in no uncertain terms and; extending on his endless talents and the world-renowned Tommy Illfigga AKA Tom Thum knocks the dust off an Insideus nodder.

A credit list of producers extends to, but not only, those responsible for mounting the many beat-laden drops, Rob Shaker (Shake Down Records), Reklews (blah records), Bambu Hands, Dan the Underdog, Truth One and DJs cutting the cake: DJ P-Nuts; DJ New Years Steve; DJ Backlash and Matt Bane (Spider hole Records).

This high calibre return from the VC Commission picks right back up from where the last one left strewn MCs over felled beats, primed to slay once again. The off-work grind of those who massacre this mixtape deliver once more on Fun Not Fame IV.
